What is the Indonesia e-CD?

The e-CD is Indonesia's electronic customs declaration, completed online instead of the old paper card handed out on the plane. It records who you are, your travel details, and the goods you are bringing into the country. At times, arriving travellers may also be asked to complete a separate health or entry declaration. Once submitted, the system generates a QR code that customs officers scan when you arrive. No QR code, or a QR code full of mistakes, and your clean walk through the airport turns into a conversation you did not plan for. Requirements can change — confirm your specific case.

Is it mandatory, and what happens if you get it wrong?

Yes. Completing the customs declaration is a requirement for arriving in Indonesia — it is not optional and it is not something you can decide to skip.
